One passport format across your entire collection
A Digital Product Passport (DPP) for fashion isn’t limited to garments — it’s built to cover the full range a fashion brand sells: ready-to-wear, activewear, bags, jewelry, and accessories, all under one consistent, scannable record.

The same passport schema covers tops, trousers, activewear, and accessories — no separate templates per product type.

Every passport is tied to a unique product record, giving shoppers and resellers a way to verify a piece is genuine.

The same record a piece launches with follows it into resale, consignment, or a take-back program — no re-cataloging needed.

Alongside required ESPR data, showcase the collection, campaign, or artisan story behind the piece — compliance and marketing in one scan.

Built for resale, authentication, and the secondhand market
Fashion moves through more hands than most product categories — first owner, resale platform, consignment shop, next owner. A fashion DPP is the one record that travels with the piece through all of it, verifying it’s genuine at every step.

A unique passport ID tied to your Shopify catalog lets buyers and resale platforms confirm your brand genuinely issued a piece.

When a piece is resold, the passport record can reflect the transfer — condition notes, resale date, and current owner status.

At end of life, the same QR code tells a recycler or take-back partner exactly what materials they're handling — no guesswork.

Who must create the fashion DPP?
Under ESPR, the “economic operator” placing the piece on the EU market carries full DPP responsibility — but fashion’s resale layer brings in one more role.

If your label is on the piece, you're the responsible party for its passport — whether it's ready-to-wear or an accessory.

Companies bringing finished fashion pieces from outside the EU must confirm a valid passport exists before sale.

Marketplaces that facilitate resale must ensure the original passport carries over accurately when ownership changes hands.

Non-EU brands can appoint an EU-based representative to carry DPP obligations on their behalf.
How it works
A compliant fashion DPP in 6 steps — from Shopify
No coding, no consultants, no separate system for each product category. PassoNext plugs into your existing Shopify catalogue.
Materials, origin, care, and certificates for every category you sell — apparel, bags, jewellery — in one place.
One-click install from the Shopify App Store. Connect your store in under two minutes — no developer needed.
Guided fields validate entries against ESPR's schema as you type, with templates that flex across product categories.
PassoNext validates the data and creates a compliant Digital Product Passport for the product or variant.
A unique GS1 Digital Link QR code is automatically generated and linked to the DPP, ready for printing on hang tags, care labels, or packaging.
Print the QR code on the product. If product information changes (supplier, materials, certifications, etc.), the DPP updates automatically while the same QR code continues to work.

Frequently asked questions
How is a Fashion DPP different from an Apparel DPP?
Apparel focuses on finished garments — shirts, dresses, jackets. Fashion is the broader umbrella: the same passport schema also covers bags, jewellery, belts, and other accessories, plus resale and authenticity features that go beyond ESPR’s minimum requirements. If your catalogue is garments only, either page’s data model works; if it spans multiple categories, the Fashion structure covers you in one system.
Do accessories like bags and jewellery need a DPP too?
Yes — ESPR’s fashion and textiles product group extends beyond garments to cover accessories made from textiles, leather, and related materials. Bags, belts, and similar items follow the same rollout wave. PassoNext’s fields flex to fit each category’s specific materials and construction data.
How does the authenticity verification work?
Each piece gets a passport tied to a unique record in your Shopify catalogue. When a buyer or resale platform scans the QR code, they see that the record was genuinely issued by your brand — rather than a copied or fabricated tag. It’s not a substitute for physical anti-counterfeit measures, but it gives buyers an easy first check.
What happens to the passport when a piece is resold?
The passport record stays with the piece. PassoNext supports recording a resale or ownership change, so the passport reflects current condition and status while keeping the original material, origin, and certification data intact for the new owner.
Does this apply to online sellers on Shopify?
Yes. ESPR applies to any economic operator placing products on the EU market, including e-commerce and Shopify sellers. If you ship fashion items — garments or accessories — to EU customers through your store, you’ll need a valid passport for each product, regardless of channel.
