The EU’s revised Toy Safety Regulation is the first sector-specific EU law to name a Digital Product Passport directly, rather than toys being folded into the broader ESPR framework other categories rely on. That said, the transition period and exact application dates for different provisions are still phasing in — we’d recommend checking the current official timeline before treating any single date as final.
Is a DPP different from CE marking or EN71 test reports?
They’re closely linked but not the same. CE marking and your EN71 test reports are the formal technical basis for placing a toy on the EU market. A DPP is a scannable, parent-facing passport that surfaces the relevant safety data — age grading, hazard warnings, test outcomes — in a format a shopper can actually read before buying, not just a symbol on the box.
What do EN71-1, -2, and -3 actually test for?
EN71-1 covers mechanical and physical safety — small parts, sharp edges, and choking hazards. EN71-2 covers flammability. EN71-3 covers the migration of certain elements, including regulated heavy metals like lead and cadmium, from toy materials. If your toy is already tested against these standards, the same results carry directly into the passport.
Where does the QR code need to go on the packaging?
